How to Uninstall Copilot in Windows 11 and 10

In this guide I will show you how to uninstall the Copilot app using different methods in Windows 11 and Windows 10. With recent updates, Microsoft has transformed Copilot from being an integral part of the OS to a standalone app. It is intended to provide you with comprehensive AI assistance by answering your questions, collecting and summarizing the local and online date.

Copilot is an AI assistant integrated into Windows 11 and 10. It is made for boosting your efficiency through the utilization of AI technology. In simple words, it will allow you do more by finishing your daily routines faster and efficiently. In order to unlock all of Copilot's features, it is necessary for you to log in to the Copilot application with your Microsoft account or Microsoft Entra Account (work or school account).

The initial implementation of Copilot was a flyout tightly integrated with the user shell. But that had quickly changed. Microsoft then introduced a dedicated Copilot web app that wraps around the eponymous web service. It runs inside Edge, but looks like a regular traditional desktop app. This means you can easily move and resize it, and pin to the taskbar.

Since it is now a dedicated app, it is possible to uninstall it with ease using several methods. There are a lot of users who have no intention of using the Copilot app and are generally skeptical about the AI ​​features in the OS.

Uninstall Copilot

  1. Open the Settings app (press Win+I).

Uninstall Copilot app for Current User in Microsoft Edge

  1. Launch the Microsoft Edge browser.
  2. In the address bar, type edge://apps/  and hit Enter. This will open the web app management page.

  4. In the Settings page for the Copilot app that opens, click on Uninstall under the eponymous section.

  6. Now you can close both Settings and Microsoft Edge.

Uninstall Copilot app for Current User using PowerShell Command

  1. Open Terminal to the PowerShell profle (Ctrl + Shift + 1).
  2. Type the following command, and press Enter to run it: Get-AppxPackage | Where-Object {$_.Name -Like '*Microsoft.Copilot*'} | Remove-AppxPackage -ErrorAction Continue​.Windows 11 Uninstall Copilot With Powershell
  3. Wait for the command to finish, and close Terminal.

The command above removes Copilot for the current user only. It is also possible to uninstall it for all user accounts of your computer.

For All Users

  1. Right-click the Start button and select Terminal (Admin),
  2. In the Terminal (Admin), switch to the PowerShell tab (Ctrl + Shift + 1).
  3. Copy-paste or type the following command into Terminal, and press Enter. Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers | Where-Object {$_.Name -Like '*Microsoft.Copilot*'} | Remove-AppxPackage -AllUsers -ErrorAction Continue​.Uninstall For All Users With Powershell
  4. Wait for the removal to finish. You can now close the Terminal (Admin) window.

That's it.

Finally, the inbox winget app will also allow you to remove Copilot from Windows 11 and 10.

Uninstall Copilot with winget

  1. Press Win + X or right-click the Start button, and select Terminal (Admin).
  2. Type winget uninstall --id Microsoft.Copilot_8wekyb3d8bbwe, and hit Enter.

Uninstall Copilot With Winget

If one day you change your mind, you may want to restore Copilot. It is easy to do, as the app is available on the Microsoft Store, in winget, and also available in form of a standalone installer. Let's review these methods.

Reinstall Copilot app for Current User from Microsoft Store

  1. Navigate to this link to open the Copilot page in the Microsoft Store app.
  2. Click Open Microsoft Store app to continue.

  4. Now wait until the Copilot app finishes installing so you can open and use it right away.

Reinstall Copilot App with "Microsoft Copilot Installer.exe" Tool

  1. Navigate to this Microsoft Copilot app page on the Microsoft Store website.

  3. Save the Microsoft Copilot Installer.exe file to any folder of your choice, and run it.
  4. The Microsoft Copilot Installer will automatically download and install the Copilot app. You can start using it.

Restore Copilot with winget

  1. Open Windows Terminal as Admin (Win + X > Terminal (Admin)
  2. Type  winget install -s msstore --id 9NHT9RB2F4HD, and press Enter.
