Traditionally, after a major release, Mozilla products receive a sequential update. Thunderbird 78.0.1 is now available, bringing several bugfixes, and a few new features to the stable branch of the app
Thunderbird is my preferred email client of choice. I use this app on every PC and on every operating system I use. It is stable, contains all the features you need, supports add-ons and also comes with a useful RSS reader. I am using Thunderbird for many years and never felt the need to look for an alternative.

Thunderbird 78 doesn't support classic XUL add-ons any more, but includes some of their features natively. E.g. on Windows you can minimize the app to the system tray.
Thunderbird 78.0.1 is notable for ten fixes, including
- Faceted search data and relevance settings not saved.
- FileLink attachments were included as a link and a file when added via drag & drop from a network drive.
- The dragging and dropping of multiple attachments to Mac OS Finder created duplicate files.
- Recipients in the CC field collapsed sometimes in the header pane.
- Search results displayed in the Contacts sidebar were cleared when a contact was removed.
- Incremental search in the Contacts sidebar did not always display local results when an LDAP server was in use.
- About Thunderbird keyboard shortcuts did not work.
- Faceted search date and relevance settings were not saved.
- Messages with long Armor header lines did not display using OpenPGP
- Messages containing non-UTF-8 text were not supported in OpenPGP
- The list of participants in chats did not display operator flags.
- Various UI and theming fixes.
Besides these fixes, there are a few new features in this release. The OpenPGP option now supports the following new capabilities:
- Key revocation.
- Key expiration extensions.
- Secret key backups.

Call me when they finally incorporate the ability to change the font & size.
Thanks.
I love Thunderbird too.
My Thunderbird doesn’t auto update to version 78 and sadly it says it is up to date when looking in the About, Help window at 68.10.0. This is quite bad since users could think they are fully up to date without any indication that they should download the latest version manually.
Do you know if they still send security updates to version 68 at least or are people that don’t follow closely the development won’t be aware that they are using unsupported software?
“….won’t be aware that they are using unsupported software”
When any software is doing what it is doing very well, why does you need any support?
Security updates when vulnerabilities are discovered. Internet facing unmaintained software is not great.
