This is the canceled Windows 8 Startup Sound

Windows 8 Cancelled Startup Sound

Jensen Harris is a former Microsoft employee who worked for the company for 15 years and led teams that built products like Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Surface, and more. Earlier he was talking about the missing startup sound in Windows 8 which was disabled at his initiative. Now he shares the sound prepared for Windows 8, along with a secret startup sound for the original Microsoft Surface. The latter didn't see the light before.

In the latest video on his YouTube channel, Jensen talked about the startup sound in Windows 8, and even demonstrated it, which was eventually canceled, including at his initiative.

Interestingly, in the Windows 8 files (C:\Windows\Media) this sound is named "Windows Logon", and leaving it there was also his initiative.

But that's not all. In the video, Jensen shows off the secret startup sound they developed for the original Microsoft Surface. This sound, until today, has never been demonstrated publicly anywhere.

You may remember that last year Jensen already released a video about how he "killed" the Windows startup sound and why he went for such a decision.

In Windows 11, the startup sound has been restored. However, in recent Insider builds Microsoft lowered its quality.
