Back in April 2021, Microsoft was tinkering the Workspaces feature for Chromium-based Edge. A "Workspace" is a set of tabs isolated into a session inside one window. This is actually a great idea that aready exists in Opera and Firefox. Thought the latter will require you to install an extension.

With Workspaces, you can split you tasks into isolated tabs. There will be tabs related to your work. Another set of tabs will host social media browsing, games, and one more can have only online banking.
Each Workspace has it own set of cookies and other data. They can't access one another. This will also allow you sign in to one website with multiple accounts. This is the key difference between Workspaces and Tab groups.
Initially, Workspaces were available to a small select group of Edge insiders. However, Microsoft has completely removed it at some point.
Look like the feature is back on its path to users. The most recent Canary version of the Edge browser sports a Workspace toolbar button toggle.
However, it does nothing at this moment. Enabling it doesn't change the button set. Also, the toggle option looks enabled by default.
Enabling the feature itself with a command line option doesn't bring Workspaces back as well. There is no single reference anywhere in the menu or other UI elements of the browser.
So, the appearance of the button maybe just a bug that makes it visible. Microsoft didn't make an official statement on this change.
Workspaces is quite a useful feature for everyone. It could be great to have it again in the Edge browser.
