The Skip Ahead Ring for Windows 10 19H2 is Now Open

As you may remember, Skip Ahead, the option which allows Insiders to test builds from the upcoming RS_PRERELESE branch, was not available for a while. It looks like the ability to join the cutting edge update branch has now been restored temporarily by Microsoft, so interested users can sign-up for upcoming 19H2 builds.

Skip Ahead allows the user to receive Windows builds from RS_PRERELEASE with inbox app updates (Music, Photos etc) from the Store.

Availability of the Skip Ahead ring indicates that development of Windows 10 version 1903, also known as "19H1" and "April 2019 Update"  is almost complete. Windows 10 version 1903 is expected to reach the RTM stage in March. The recently released Insider Preview build 18323 is the first build from the 19h1_release branch. At the moment of this writing, Microsoft has already compiled a number of 19H2 builds, starting with 18823 from the rs_prerelease branch.

To join Skip Ahead for Windows 10 19H2, do the following.

  1. Ensure that you are running the latest Insider Preview build (e.g. 18323 in the Fast Ring as of this writing).
  2. Open the Settings app.
  3. Navigate to Update & Security.
  4. On the left, click on Windows Insider Program.
  5. On the right, click on the current ring name.Windows 10 Change Insider Preview Ring
  6. On the next page, choose "Skip Ahead".Windows 10 SKip Ahead Ring

You are done. You can close Settings if you like.

It is expected that Windows 10 "19H2" will be released in October, 2019. However, this information is not officially confirmed yet.  Since the development for Windows 10 19H2 has just started, we shouldn't get new features and many improvements in the very first builds.
