Windows 10 build 10056 brings back the resizable Start menu

In the recently leaked Windows 10 build 10056 Microsoft has made significant changes to the Start menu. Now it is resizable once again as it was in the earlier builds, and finally allows the user to turn off the transparency. Let's see how it looks and works.

What is new about the Start menu in Windows 10 build 10036

In earlier builds of Windows 10 such as build 9926, there are 2 Start Menus. One of them which could be activated with a simple Registry tweak and was resizable. The other is the "Continuum" (Tablet Mode) Start menu. But this ability is not present in the freshly leaked Windows 10 build 10036. The previous Registry trick does not work, so you only have the new Start menu, which can be switched to a full screen mode.

Switch between the old and new Start menu in Windows 10 build 9926

In Windows 10 build 9978, Microsoft implemented a Start menu, which could be resized by the user and showed installed apps along with Live tiles. Also, the user was able to switch between the Start screen and the Start menu using a checkbox in the Taskbar Properties dialog. However, in the recently released Windows 10 build 9926 there is again a new Start menu, formerly known by its code name "Continuum". It replaces the previous version of the Start menu for now. In this article, we will see how to switch between the old Start menu with the Start screen and the new "Continuum" Start menu.
