Supermium Browser brings the newest Chrome engine to Windows 7, Vista and even XP

Meet the new Supermium browser, a modified version of Chrome (Chromium 122) on older Windows systems such as XP, 2003, Vista, 7, and 8.x. These OSes aren't supported by the official Chrome and Edge versions. The unofficial one allows users to log into their Google accounts, sync settings and extensions.

Reportedly, the Supermium browser is compatible with Windows XP and can run Gmail smoothly. It requires a 32-bit processor with the SSE2 instruction set.

Supermium Browser

To use the Supermium browser, you need Windows XP SP3 or later, or Windows Server 2003 SP2 or later. The project also supports ancient  processors like Pentium 4 with SSE2 support. Supermium 122, which matched the newest Chrome 122 (as of now), supports them all.

As you remember, Google Chrome doesn't support Windows XP and Vista with starting in version 50. Pretty similar situation is for Microsoft Edge. Moreover, Chrome 109 was the last version to support Windows 7/8/8.1.

The Supermium project team has announced plans to introduce support for Windows 2000, WebGPU for D3D9 rendering, and Manifest V2 in future browser versions. This will happen after Google removes support for these features.

  1. Hello Mr Tkachenko,
the requirement of the SSE2-instruction-set might result in the fact that your s(u)permium-browser won’t work on my compaq-board (from 2003). This would be a big pity. I will test and inform you (i downloaded from portableapps).
Basically, it is a very applaudable idea to provide browsers functioning under XP!!!
For this idea i say—so far—very many thanks to you!!!
(Maybe i send you a gratification in the future.)
    best regards from

  2. I intensely tested the s(u)permium under 7 and xp (both installed on a system with pentium4 (2.8 GHz) and 1,75 GBs). Under 7 it works fine! But under xp (.de, SP3) it’s a real disaster. It does n o t work swiftly, quite on the contrary!! By rapid mouse-motions sometimes one of the (at least) 8 instances of chrome.exe reacts with a CPU-load of up to 99%!! Why?? (This effect doesn’t appear under 7!) Not seldom a seconds-long hang arises, even after ordering the shut-down!!! My résumés:
    A) xp: unusable—what a pity!!!
    B) 7: S(u)permium is t h e hope for all who do n o t bow to being forced time and again to buy new hardware because browser-offerers (like already Google and FF) demand a windows of at least 10…… Hopefully the s(u)permium-developers will n e v e r decide to demand a higher OS than win7!!!
