Skype for Linux Alpha 1.11 comes with call improvements

Microsoft has released Skype for Linux Alpha version 1.11. This new application is a completely redesigned Skype version which has nothing common with the previously available Skype 4.3. In this version, the application got many improvements for video calls.

The change log for Skype 1.11 for Linux looks as follows:

  • Added support for setting avatar for group chats
  • Performance improvements during video call
  • Updated to Electron 1.4.4

To give it a try, do the following.

  1. Point your browser here: Skype for Linux Alpha
  2. Download and install the appropriate package.
  3. Open the apps menu and run it from there.
