Edge Add-on Store is getting extension badges

Microsoft has announced that they are bringing badges to the Edge add-on store. They should help you differentiate useful and popular extensions among 11,000 available add-ons. In company's opinion, the new badge system will stimulate developers to build high quality extensions to compete on the marketplace.

A post on techcommunity reveals that badges will initially available to a small select group of users and developers.

The Edge Addons Store is starting its experiment with extensions badges soon. And we want to iteratively build this alongside our dev community. Edge is starting with a small-scale experiment and will begin to engage with the developer community to talk through the criterion and help them get acquainted with the badging process on EAS.

Microsoft states that they will implement the new feature with User Centric and Objective evaluation criterion principles.

Microsoft isn't reinventing the wheel because its competitors already have badges, themed and features sections in their respective stores. Both Chrome and Mozilla have an extension recommendation system, featured themes and add-ons, and so on. So Edge users will soon have a similar experience.
