Windows 10 comes with a new default browser, Microsoft Edge. It's a Universal app which has extension support, a fast rendering engine and a simplified user interface. In this article, we will see how to set the new tab page to a blank page in this browser.

Edge got a lot of changes with recent releases of Windows 10. The browser now has extension support, EPUB support, a built-in PDF reader, the ability to export passwords and favorites and a number of other useful functions like the ability to go Full screen with a single key stroke. In Windows 10 Creators Update, Edge got support for tab groups (Set Tabs Aside). In Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, the browser has been updated with Fluent Design.

Another great feature of the Microsoft Edge web browser is the ability to print web pages without ads, extra decorations and styles. Check out the following article.

Finally, you can make Microsoft Edge read the contents of a PDF, EPUB file, or a web page using the built-in Read Aloud feature of the browser.

The browser allows making specific extensions available in InPrivate windows. This can be done for each extension individually.

It is possible to change the appearance and behavior of the new tab page in Edge. Here is how it can be done.

To set New Tab Page to Blank in Microsoft Edge, do the following.

  1. Launch the Edge browser.
  2. Click the three dots "..." menu button.

That's it.

  1. I’ve downloaded and run the Microsoft Edge malware remover. Windows 10 then decided to update itself, and then now your malware remover doesn’t.

  2. These steps do not work as of this date. You will get a Bing search bar and you cannot remove it with “a blank page”. There’s no way to get around this, apparently.

  3. Seems every web site focuses on turning the first page opened blank. What everyone is asking for is a truly blank page when you open a new tab. sigh.

  4. TL;DR? use hosts file to block https://ntp.msn.com/edge/ntp

Instructions on winaero are given are how to open fresh Edge session to a blank screen. This is inconsequential and only applies to brand new startups.
Please how to open a completely blank & white new tab!! With our multiple tabs a day, currently even a ‘featureless page’ per (MS’s instructions) gives us page full of search engine bar, weather bug, promotional news banner at top, settings wheel, recent history searches, and even Favorites Bar that shows only ON new tabs… and that’s AFTER customizing tab to ‘content off’ and history searches to ‘off’ too. MS will literally not allow users to have an about:blank page. (probably for cookie & beacon benefits to them).
Answer? Look at source code, our ‘featureless tab’ is from https://ntp.msn.com/edge/ntp
Just open your hosts file, add 127.0.0.1 https://ntp.msn.com/edge/ntp, and save. You will now get an inaccessible page a blank page.
