Qualcomm has officially introduced the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, its newest flagship system-on-chip (SoC) designed for upcoming Android smartphones. The company revealed the chip’s name in a recent blog post.

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Performance
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 integrates a third-generation Oryon CPU featuring two prime cores clocked up to 4.6GHz and six performance cores operating at up to 3.62GHz. Qualcomm reports a 35% improvement in CPU power efficiency, resulting in a 16% gain in overall SoC efficiency. The updated Adreno GPU comes with up to 23% higher gaming performance while reducing power consumption by 20%.
AI Capabilities Powered by Advanced NPU
The Hexagon Neural Processing Unit (NPU) achieves a 37% performance increase over its predecessor alongside notable power savings. Combined with the Snapdragon Sensing Hub, these enhancements support personalized, on-device AI experiences that adapt to user behavior over time.
Imaging and Video Features
The chip’s upgraded Image Signal Processor (ISP) introduces support for the APV (Advanced Professional Video) codec and enables a computational video pipeline. According to Qualcomm Senior Vice President Alex Katouzian, this pipeline facilitates AI-driven enhancements on a per-frame basis. The ISP also delivers context-aware autofocus, auto exposure, and auto white balance for improved image quality.
Finally, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 comes with the previously announced X85 modem, which reduces gaming latency by 50% through AI-enhanced Wi-Fi technology. Devices powered by this SoC will arrive soon from leading Android manufacturers.
