PowerToys Run will get ChatGPT integration

The PowerToys software is receiving ChatGPT support that will allow users to perform AI-powered searches within the "Run" tool. Users will be able to enter queries in the PowerToys Run text box and receive answers in the window below it.

The integration is being developed by Simone Franco, who is also known for creating the WSATools app that allows installing APK files on Windows 11 with a single click into the Windows Subsystem for Android.

The utility is still at an early stage of development. In the near future, the developer plans to change the interface by adding buttons for copying the results and reformulating the query. They also said that they are is looking for the best solution for displaying the results.

The ChatGPT plugin for PowerToys Run

According to the information provided on GitHub, the ChatGPT feature in PowerToys Run will not be enabled by default. This means that users will have to manually turn it on in the settings if they wish to use it. Additionally, in order to access this feature, users will need to have an OpenAI API key and enter it into the appropriate field. This is a limitation of the feature that users should be aware of before attempting to use it.

At this time, there is no release date for the public version available. You can track the progress here on GitHub. It is exciting to see the potential for this integration and the benefits it could bring to PowerToys users.

PowerToys Run is a highly useful launcher application for Windows that aims to improve the user's productivity. You can open it using the keyboard shortcut Alt + Space, and use it to launch programs or execute commands. It also supports plugins that expand its capabilities for calculations, file search, notes and other useful additions. In the near future, PowerToys Run will allow you to launch any "powertoy" and their settings using its command box.
