PowerToys might get a scheduler that changes Windows settings

There is a suggestion for a PowerToys new tool that could become as a nice addition to Windows Task Scheduler. It would allow changing OS settings with ease via a friendly GUI. The module, with a working name Settings Scheduler, would allow changing the Windows theme, mute and unmute the sound, turn the screen on or off, and so on. The actions run by a schedule or timer, so the user could pick what suites better.

The module is currently nothing but an idea by a third-party contributor. The author describes it as a friendly task scheduler with a flexible set of triggers and conditions. The customization options aim to be easier than PowerAutomate. Finally, the actions can be location-aware based on what Wi-Fi networks are available, or when detected by some other method.

Here's the UI concept by the author, TheJoeFin on GitHub.

PowerToys Settings Scheduler

The idea of the tool sounds great. However, there is no code for it yet, and it is not clear if any of the PowerToys developers and contributors accepts the challenge. So I don't expect it to appear in PowerToys in the near future.

But what's confirmed to come in next releases are three new modules.

  • New+  - adds are more powerful variant of the good old "New" menu with customizable templates for files it creates.
  • Action Menu, a menu with advanced file operations like moving selected files to a newly created folder, place file contents to the clipboard, and so on.
  • ZoomIt - a screen scaling tool that is heavily based on the SysInternals app of the same name.

Unlike the "Settings Scheduler", these already have their implementations and PRs to the PowerToys repo.
