The latest release of Microsoft PowerToys, version 0.94, includes a new search feature in the Settings interface. As the toolset expands, locating specific options has become more complex. The search field supports fuzzy matching, allowing users to find settings without exact spelling. Activating Ctrl+F or selecting the search box displays real-time suggestions. Selecting an item directs the user to the corresponding settings page. When more than five results appear, users can view all matches on a dedicated search results page.

Detection of Keyboard Shortcut Conflicts

PowerToys now identifies conflicting keyboard shortcuts across its modules and Windows system functions. Shortcuts already in use appear highlighted in red. A new tile on the main dashboard displays the total number of active conflicts. Selecting the tile provides detailed information and enables immediate reassignment to prevent overlapping actions.

Gliding Cursor Mode for Improved Precision

The Mouse Crosshair tool introduces Gliding Cursor Mode, designed to assist users with limited precision in mouse control. Activating a key starts incremental movement. Subsequent key presses lock horizontal and vertical positions sequentially, followed by a mouse click. This function supports accessibility by enabling step-by-step cursor placement.

Here are the other changes and details.

What's new in PowerToys 0.94

Enhanced Settings and Navigation

PowerToys 0.94 introduces a searchable Settings interface with fuzzy matching, enabling users to locate options quickly. Selecting a result navigates directly to the relevant section. The shutdown action has moved to a footer menu with confirmation to prevent accidental use. Settings now include telemetry for monitoring shortcut conflict resolution usage.

Improved Shortcut and Input Management

The update implements comprehensive detection of keyboard shortcut conflicts. Conflicting shortcuts appear in red, and a dedicated resolution dialog helps users reassign them. A local keyboard hook ensures reliable handling of the GoBack key. The PowerRename Explorer accelerator key has been changed to avoid menu conflicts.

Accessibility and User Experience Upgrades

Mouse Utilities now feature Gliding Cursor mode, allowing precise pointer control and single-key clicking. Command Palette improves accessibility with focused dialogs and reachable text. Automation notifications are centralized for better screen reader support. Quick Accent remembers frequently used characters and adds Maltese language support, including the Euro symbol.

Technical and Stability Enhancements

The installer has been upgraded to WiX 5, improving reliability during silent installations. Context menu modules on Windows 10 now use runtime registration with proper cleanup. Memory leaks are resolved through better list item disposal. Race conditions in cancellation handling are fixed, and stale message processing is prevented in closed windows.

Visual and Functional Refinements

The Command Palette adopts WinUI 3 separator styling and a new Fluent Clipboard History icon. Context menus display at the cursor position with an acrylic backdrop. Path shortcuts such as ~ for home and support for UNC paths are now available. Hosts File Editor includes an option to remove leading spaces from active entries. Image Resizer localization works correctly under WinUI 3.

Developer and Extension Support

The Extensions SDK now targets a stable Windows SDK, includes ARM64 PDBs, and removes unnecessary WinAppSDK dependencies. Sample extensions support local deployment. DynamicListPage adds single-select filters, and new “evil” sample pages assist in reproducing complex bugs. Extension APIs are designed for future compatibility.
