OneDrive now asks for a reason to exit it, otherwise it won’t close

Microsoft has updated the OneDrive client app so that now it prevents the user from exiting it. Upon attempting to close OneDrive on Windows, you will be prompted to complete a survey explaining your reason for choosing to exit the application.

The button to sign out of OneDrive will remain grayed out until you select an option from the list provided.

  • I do not want OneDrive running all the time
  • I do not know what OneDrive is
  • I do not use OneDrive
  • I am trying to fix a problem with OneDrive
  • I am trying to speed up my computer
  • I get too many notifications
  • Other

For many years, Microsoft has actively promoted the OneDrive service in Windows through various methods. For instance, when you change your desktop wallpaper, the system urges you to enable backup of your Pictures folder to the OneDrive cloud.

OneDrive backup notifications occasionally pop up in the Start menu. Additionally, a new button has recently emerged in Explorer's address bar to facilitate the synchronization of folders with the cloud.

Similar intrusive messages can be encountered in Microsoft Edge when attempting to download Google Chrome or change your default browser. Lately, upon visiting the Google Chrome download page, a sidebar appears, soliciting information on why you opted for an alternative browser.

Let's hope that Microsoft won't enable the Windows Shutdown survey for client devices like the company does for Windows Servers to prevent an accidental server shut down.

If you have no desire to participate in the OneDrive exit survey, then you can open the Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc), find the Microsoft OneDrive process, and kill it forcibly.
