New Outlook app for Windows will replace Mail and Calendar in September 2024

Microsoft announced that a new web-based Outlook client for Windows will replace the legacy Mail, Calendar, and People apps starting in September 2024. The legacy apps are the Store UWP software. The new Outlook will come preinstalled on all devices manufactured in 2024. Finally, the Mail and Calendar app will have an option for the smooth transition to the new app.

The Microsoft 365 Message Center now includes an appropriate message, which has also been shared on the M365 Admin website. The company's intention is to discontinue the Mail and Calendar inbox apps. Starting from September 2024, both these applications will no longer be available for download.

Moreover, Microsoft has also mentioned that the new Outlook for Windows application will be accessible to subscribers of Microsoft 365 or Office 365, as well as those who use personal email accounts. Non-subscribers may also use the new Outlook app without a subscription to Microsoft 365 or Office 365.

It is worth noting that the new Outlook client for Windows has been in beta testing for quite some time. But its development was quite long. The support for multiple accounts, including Outlook, Gmail and Yahoo, has appeared just weeks ago. And it is not yet available for other mail services.

At the same time, Microsoft promises that Outlook for Windows will have all the necessary features to work effectively with e-mail. It will be supercharged by AI, which will help users to compose impressive polished texts.
