Mustafa Suleyman, CEO of Microsoft AI, has shared insights into the future evolution of Copilot. Accordingly, there is a vision in which the AI assistant develops a distinct personality and sense of continuity over time. He explains that Copilot will eventually exhibit traits akin to aging and personal history, creating a more human-friendly experience.
As part of this direction, Microsoft AI has introduced Copilot Appearance, a real-time interactive virtual character.
It is currently available as an experimental feature in Copilot Labs. The feature is accessible to a select group of users in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada. This character can display emotional responses such as smiling, nodding, or showing surprise during conversations.

Suleyman described the concept of "digital patina," where digital entities accumulate subtle signs of use and time, similar to physical objects. He expressed interest in embedding such characteristics into Copilot to create a sense of presence and history.
With these changes, Microsoft tries to turn Copilot into a true personal companion. This direction comes from Suleyman’s prior work on the Pi assistant at Inflection AI.
Suleyman also commented on the future of Windows, characterizing the current desktop interface as cluttered and visually overwhelming. He suggested a shift toward a calmer, more focused environment, particularly on Copilot+ PCs.

They just can’t let go of Clipppy, the Office 97 character that died soon after its release.
The world is going to divide into those who want to interact with cute animated characters to get work done, versus those who want to use AI to find answers, but who don’t want to be throttled by it. Linux is looking better all the time.
Just installed WinAero Tweaker. Thanks so much for this great tool!
Honestly they should just bring back clippy.
Yeah, its M$’ known tech legacy even it tends to be an annoying Office Assistant until they totally ditch them.
If Microsoft replaces the Desktop with Copilot, Windows will brutally die. It will be worse than removing the Start Button in Windows 8.
So, i.e., the AI Clippy. My little toe is dancing inside my shoe. Or maybe it’s a strangely familiar nervous twitch.
