Microsoft to update ISOs for Windows 11/10 version 22H2

Microsoft is preparing for release new ISO files for both Windows 11 and Windows 10, version 22H2. Both releases will receive integration of the latest cumulative updates. Plus, Windows 11 will get an option to faster receive "Moment" updates.

Update 2023/05/24: The ISO files are now available for download.

Both ISO images should include Patch Tuesday fixes and improvements released this month.

For Windows 11, it is KB5026372, OS Build 22621.1702. The release is notable for adding a new toggle control on the Settings > Windows Update page. When you turn it on, you device will have a priority when getting the latest non-security updates and enhancements when they are available for your device. See Get Windows updates as soon as they're available for your device. There are also several fixes and general improvements included in this patch.

For Windows 10, the updated ISO image should include KB5026361, OS Builds 1904x.2965. In this update, a fix has been implemented to resolve a race condition found in Windows Local Administrator Password Solution (LAPS). The issue caused the Local Security Authority Subsystem Service (LSASS) to become unresponsive when multiple local account operations were processed simultaneously. This problem was identified to be associated with the access violation error code 0xc0000005.

The updated ISO images should have the names like Win11_22H2_English_x64v2.iso and Win10_22H2_English_x64v2.iso. As of this writing, I don't see them available for download on the Microsoft website.

You can check yourself the appropriate download locations: Windows 11 | Windows 10.

Once Microsoft update the servers, the files will become available.

The updated ISO images will be of help for those who do a clean install. Existing users already have all the new features and improvements after installing May Updates.

In other news, Microsoft has removed ads from the Weather app, and has notified Windows 21H2 users that the OS will soon become non-supported.

Thanks to Xeno.

  1. Edit on the post above.

Looked a bit at the Windows 10 iso file, looks like it’s modified May 5, 2023 15∶50∶36. So it has to be the new one. They just haven’t changed the name to v2. A bit stupid, I think. Hard to keep track of ver of Windows then.

Will probably be the last Windows 10 iso they build if nothing serious happens. Who knows!
