Microsoft has extended the support time frame for Windows 10 version 1709. The operating system will continue to receive security updates until October 13, 2020, but they will be released only for enterprise and education customers.
By this change, Microsoft is shifting the end of support date from April 14, 2020, to October, 13, 2020. The company explains that the reason behind this move is the situation with the coronavirus.
We have been evaluating the public health situation, and we understand the impact this is having on you, our valued customers. To ease one of the many burdens you are currently facing, and based on customer feedback, we have decided to delay the scheduled end of service date for the Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise editions of Windows 10, version 1709. This means devices will receive monthly security updates only from May to October. The final security update for these editions of Windows 10, version 1709 will be released on October 13, 2020 instead of April 14, 2020.
Microsoft recommends IT teams to consider shifting to Windows Update for Business, which allows users to take both feature updates and quality updates directly from Microsoft in a secure and often faster manner. There are Windows as a service resources that can be used as a reference for setting up the OS.

It is interesting that Microsoft ADMITS OPENLY for the first time ever that being forced to constantly update the operating system every six months is in their own words a “BURDEN”!!! Yay, acknowledgement is progress. It’s too bad they are only doing this for Enterprise and Education and refuse to listen to their normal everyday users of Windows.
Microsoft also admits in this same statement that customer feedback clearly favors NOT having forced updates. And they basically just ignore what the customer wants. I don’t think anyone minds that they update the software. The problem is that they effectively try to force everyone to update the software on their schedule. Maybe one day this will change.
