Microsoft to Shut Down Windows 11 Dev Home App Just 2 Years After Launching

Windows 11 includes a new app called "Dev Home", which a dashboard for developers. It was announced just two years ago, but Microsoft is already shutting down it in May 2025.

The  app was unveiled at the Build 2023 conference. Its main idea was to deploy most dev tools with a couple of clicks to turn the user's computer into a developer workstation. The tasks include a connection to GitHub, basic setup, a WinGet configuration to directly get developer tools and app. Finally, it allows the user to create a Dev Drive, which is a separate disk partition with the ReFS file system optimized for development.

However, the app failed to shine in the developer community. Many simply ignored it. As a result, Microsoft would end support for Dev Home in May 2025. However, the company did not yet provide any reasons for this decision.

A newly added notification (discovered by WithinRafael on X) at the top of the Dev Home app indicates that some features will be moved to "new places". The notification looks as follows.
