Microsoft to Nag Windows 7 Users to Upgrade to Windows 10

Windows 7 is going out of support in the 14th January 2020, but plenty of users are using it and have no plans to upgrade it. Microsoft is getting ready to end support for Windows 7, and will begin to push a series of messages to Windows 7 users by showing notifications about the support expiration.

The company says the notification should appear only a handful number of times before support ends, also providing an option to "do not notify me again" for users interested in using the older version of the OS without support. This change mostly affects home users and small companies. Enterprise customers can afford to pay for Windows 7 support and continue using it.

The official blog posts states:

This is a courtesy reminder that you can expect to see a handful of times in 2019. By starting the reminders now, our hope is that you have time to plan and prepare for this transition. These notifications are designed to help provide information only and if you would prefer not to receive them again, you'll be able to select an option for "do not notify me again", and we will not send you any further reminders. Just as software has changed over the years, so has hardware. To learn more about the latest line-up of modern PCs and information for moving from Windows 7 to Windows 10, just click on the "learn more" button on the notification.

In addition to notifications, Microsoft is also launching an informational site about the upgrade options. At the time of this writing, it doesn't include a free upgrade option.

Starting on January 20, Windows 7 Pro users who decide to stay and wish to continue receiving security updates will need to spend $50 a year per device, and an extra $25 for Enterprise users. It is worth noting that the price will double every year up to 2023, eventually making the switch to Windows 10 the most cost-effective solution.

It looks like I’ll have to start pirating my security updates LMFAO

Note: Win 7 has been ‘upgraded’ to contain the same spyware as win 10 they just hide it much better.
