Microsoft to bring AI features to Xbox in cooperation with Inworld AI

Microsoft has announced a partnership with Inworld AI to develop tools for Xbox that AI-powered characters, stories, and quests. The goal is to use AI as a design assistant to enhance the game development process.

Haiyan Zhang, general manager of gaming AI at Xbox, believes that improved tools will lead to even better games. The partnership will leverage Inworld's expertise in generative AI models, Microsoft's cloud-based AI solutions, technical expertise from Microsoft Research, and the Xbox team's ability to make technology more accessible for all developers.

The AI toolkit will consist of an AI assistant and a character engine that can be incorporated into games to dynamically create stories, quests, and dialogue. Inworld is developing artificially intelligent NPCs that can communicate in natural language, similar to ChatGPT or Bing Chat.

These AI-NPCs will have unique voices and can incorporate complex dialogue trees and personalized dynamic storylines into games. Additionally, Inworld's technology can be used to create companions in role-playing games.
