Microsoft rolls out the new OneDrive 3.0 design for everyone

Microsoft has announced that the new design OneDrive 3.0 will be available to everyone before the end of February.  The functionality will differ from the OneDrive for Business version (which now looks the same), but the look will be identical.

The third generation of OneDrive cloud storage has received an updated Fluent-style design, support for AI-based Copilot, as well as a number of improvements related to sharing and use of your documents.

The web version of OneDrive has a new “For You” section, displayed at the top of the service interface. It will display recommended files selected by artificial intelligence, and they can be located both in OneDrive and in Microsoft Teams or some other service.

The Shared section now includes all files shared through Microsoft Teams, email, or some other means. File permission management has also been improved.

The upgraded visual design minimizes clutter and distractions. With the improved OneDrive, you can now dedicate less time to searching for files and more time to accomplishing your tasks. These enhancements are uniformly implemented throughout the application, providing a smooth and consistent user experience.

Microsoft specially highlights the new People section. It that focuses on the individuals you spend your time with. You can find the files you need by simply selecting a buddy by his last name and avatar. The list on the page can be filtered, and friends you contact most frequently with can be pinned to the top of the page.

The newly enhanced user interface also offers new filters to facilitate easy discovery of files based on their file format, such as Word, PDF, and so on.

Microsoft says it will be the gradual release of the updated OneDrive experience to users, with a plan to make it accessible to all users by the end of February.
