Microsoft Launches Surface Laptop 5G with Advanced Connectivity and AI Capabilities

Microsoft has unveiled the Surface Laptop 5G, a new addition to its premium laptop lineup designed for professionals requiring constant connectivity and high-performance computing. Scheduled for release on August 26, 2025, the device starts at $1,799 and marks the first 5G-enabled model in the Surface Laptop series.

Powered by Intel Core Ultra Series 2 processors, the Surface Laptop 5G includes a dedicated neural processing unit (NPU), qualifying it as a Copilot+ PC. This enables full access to Windows 11’s latest AI-driven features, including enhanced security, real-time language translation, text, image and video processing, and much more.

Surface Laptop 5G Specifications

The device retains the sleek 13.8-inch form factor of the Surface Laptop 7 but features internal modifications to accommodate the 5G modem and a physical nano-SIM slot.

A key innovation is the custom six-antenna system. It is engineered to dynamically optimize signal strength based on user posture and environmental conditions. To support this advanced radio performance without sacrificing durability or aesthetics, Microsoft developed a proprietary multi-layer laminate material for the chassis. This enables for optimal signal transmission while maintaining a premium feel.

The Surface Laptop 5G supports global 5G networks and has been validated across more than 100 mobile operators in over 50 countries. It also functions as a mobile hotspot. So the owner can share a secure Wi-Fi connection with other devices. This capability, combined with extended battery life and enterprise-grade security, makes the laptop as a convenient tool for mobile professionals.

Two configurations are available, both in platinum silver. The base model features an Intel Core Ultra 5 processor, 16GB RAM, and a 256GB SSD, priced at $1,799. The high-end variant includes an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor, 32GB RAM, and a 1TB SSD, retailing for $2,699.
