Reportedly, that Microsoft has finally canceled the project for its own portable Xbox gaming console. Earlier, there were rumors that the project has been postponed. Instead, the company will focus on refining the software platform and supporting devices from partners such as ASUS.

Citing their own sources, The Verge claims that the project is essentially cancelled as the company focuses on the new Xbox software platform.
However, earlier reports, again with references to internal sources at Microsoft, point that the Redmond firm still plans to create its own portable Xbox gaming console in the future. Most likely the shift to the software optimization is related to the threat from SteamOS, which provides higher gaming performance on portable devices compared to Windows. But, the postponed projects rarely come back to life.
The Verge is also confident that the next generation of Xbox consoles will build the same way as the recently announced ROG Xbox Ally portable console. The latter offers access to games created to the PC platform and not for XBox's native titles.
None of the rumors have been confirmed or denied by Microsoft. Only time will tell the truth.
