Microsoft has officially announced the addition of the Copilot feature to Windows 10 Home and Pro. Earlier, such rumors were circulation on the Internet but without a word from Microsoft. So in the coming months, Microsoft will release the AI-powered Copilot assistant for Windows 10 Insiders.
Microsoft plans to increase investment in the operating system so that users can get the most out of their Windows devices. The first step in this direction will be the introduction of Copilot.
The Windows 10 version of Copilot is expected to be similar to the Windows 11 version, but not completely identical. Some add-ons and features will only work on Windows 11, while most will be supported on both operating systems.
ℹ️ Copilot for Windows was released in September. It was originally available in Windows 11 22H2 and is now automatically enabled by default on Windows 11 23H2 devices in select global markets.
Customers who want to test Copilot on Windows 10 22H2 devices will soon be able to sign up for the Insider program for the Business Release Preview Channel. Copilot will be gradually rolled out to home systems through a controlled rollout.
Additionally, Windows 10 introduces a "Get the latest updates as soon as they're available" option in Windows Update settings. This will allow users to access new system features that are ready to use. The new option is already available in the most recent Release Preview channel update, Windows 10 Build 19045.3754. It has been released via the KB5032278 patch.
Users who want to participate in Copilot's early testing can head to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, enabling the newly added "Get the latest updates as soon as they're available" toggle. Once it will become available, it will be possible to launch Copilot by clicking the icon at the end of the taskbar to open a chat sidebar, similar to Windows 11.
So, KB5032278 lays the foundation for the addition of Copilot, but doesn't actually includes it. Besides the new update option, it includes another noteworthy change. The “News and Interests” flyout is now of a bigger size.
Finally, it will include an update UI for setting default apps settings, which is reminiscent of the settings from Windows 11.
Microsoft also said the end of support date for Windows 10 remains the same, i.e. it will be October 14, 2025.
