Microsoft has confirmed HDR color issues in Windows 11

Microsoft has confirmed another issue in the latest version of Windows. A bug is causing some apps on Windows 11 to have a damage color pallete with some HDR monitors. Most affected apps are image editors, but the bug can cause issues with other apps as well.

Microsoft says the problem occurs when certain color rendering APIs return unexpected values. This causes the white color to become bright yellow, and so on.

The issue does not affect the Color Profile page in Settings and color profiles in the Microsoft Color Control Panel. The bug is specific to Windows 11 and doesn't exist in any version of Windows 10.

Windows 11 HDR Color Known Issue

Microsoft is already working on the fix for this bug. However, the patch will see the light only in the second half of January 2022. You can track the progress on the official Windows Health website.

Being a new release, Windows 11 still has a number of minor issues the Redmon firm is trying to quickly resolve. Previously, Windows 11 users were facing BSODs with the Intel SST driver. You may also recall performance hogs on AMD devices. It will take some time for Microsoft to polish rought surfaces in the OS before making it available for broad deployment.
