Microsoft has announced Dragon Copilot, a new AI assistant

Microsoft has introduced Dragon Copilot, an AI-powered assistant designed for medical environments. The tool leverages technology from Nuance Communications, which Microsoft acquired in 2021, combining the speech recognition capabilities of Dragon Medical One and the conversational AI capabilities of DAX Copilot.

Dragon Copilot is designed to ease the administrative burden on healthcare professionals, allowing them to focus more on patient care. Key features include:

  • Search and deliver information from trusted medical sources.
  • Automate tasks such as creating clinical summaries, referral letters, and post-visit summaries.
  • Support for multilingual note-taking and natural language dictation.

By simplifying documentation and automating routine tasks, Dragon Copilot aims to reduce physician burnout and improve patient care. According to Microsoft surveys, physicians using Nuance technology (the foundation of Dragon Copilot) experienced less burnout, and 93% of their patients reported an improved overall experience.

Capabilities of Dragon Copilot

The system offers several advanced capabilities.

  • Multilanguage Ambient Note Creation : Automatically generates notes in multiple languages during consultations.
  • Natural Language Dictation : Converts spoken words into structured clinical documentation.
  • Medical Information Search : Provides accurate, general-purpose medical information sourced from trusted content providers.
  • Task Automation : Handles tasks like conversational orders, clinical evidence summaries, and referral letters.

Dragon Copilot will be integrated into the Microsoft Cloud for Healthcare platform. Initially, it will launch in the US and Canada in May, with plans to expand to the UK, Germany, France, and the Netherlands later.
