Microsoft has rolled out OpenAI’s GPT-5 across its product suite, including Copilot, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Azure AI Foundry, and GitHub Copilot. The release marks a synchronized deployment of the new model, now accessible via a smart mode in Copilot. The latter automatically selects between reasoning and response speed based on task demands.

Free users of Copilot gain direct access to GPT-5, following OpenAI’s update of ChatGPT. Microsoft 365 Copilot users benefit from enhanced capabilities in handling complex queries, maintaining context over extended interactions, and improving overall accuracy.
GitHub Copilot subscribers on paid plans can now involve GPT-5 in improved code generation, featuring stronger logic and higher-quality output. The model is available in four variants. GPT-5 is optimized for multi-step reasoning, and GPT-5-chat is designed for enterprise-level multimodal conversations with contextual awareness.
Developers also gain access through Azure AI Foundry, where a model router ensures appropriate deployment of GPT-5 based on input requirements. This enables precise matching of model performance to specific application needs.
