Microsoft Edge gets deeper integration between Collections and Bing

Microsoft is implementing tight integration between Collections, Bing, and the "Follow creators" feature. The Bing's saved videos and pictures will be available directly from Collections. The "Follow creators" feature could soon become part of the Collections.

When you use Bing, it allows you to "save" images and videos you like. Later, you can go to the www.bing.com/saves/ page and browse the collected items. It is like a "favorites" folder but provided by the search engine.

Now, Microsoft integrates that page directly to the browser. When you are signed in to Edge with your Microsoft Account, it will display two more collections in the list, "Saved Images" and "Saved Videos". Those are from Bing.

When you save a video or image in Bing, those files appear in both the My Saves page and the Collections panel, and if you delete one of those videos or images from the Bing page, they will also be removed from your collections panel. The same will happen if you delete images or videos from the Collections panel, they will be removed from the Bing page.

Also, the Collections sidebar will probably get tabs. As you can see in the screenshot above, it has got a new header with a blue underline. Other tabs there could be "Creators I follow" and "Recent posts". Something like this:

This fits the changes Microsoft already did to the "Follow" pane. The latter includes two mentioned tabs, "Creators I follow"  and "Recent posts", which could soon join Collections.

Another sign of merging Collections and Follow panels is a new toggle option in settings. The new switch under Settings > Privacy, search and services is called "Show Collections and follow content creators in Microsoft Edge".

Disabling it will hide both features in the browser. You'll have to restart the browser to apply the change.

Keep in mind that these changes are highly experimental. Microsoft tinkers with collections for a long time to find the best set of features with the most useful user experience. So it's possible that these changes will never make it into the stable version of Edge.
