Microsoft may announce a new Cloud PC service at an upcoming Inspire event next week. The company hasn't revealed any details about Cloud PC. However, session names and other information indicate that the announcement is just around the corner.

On July 15th, Microsoft will be hosting an event called "What's Next in End-User Computing," featuring Scott Manchester. ZDNet indicates that Manchester is the head of the department developing services for Windows Virtual Desktop, Remote Desktop Services, Second Screen Remoting, as well as multimedia and networking technologies.

Earlier this year, Mary Jo Foley, editor of the ZDNet portal, reported that Scott Manchester is working on the Cloud PC service. The service itself will provide users with access to a full-fledged version of Windows running in the cloud. This will allow employees to connect to their remote desktop from anywhere via the Internet.

Cloud PC is somewhat similar to the Xbox Cloud Gaming service (Project xCloud). But it is all about increasing productivity, not gaming. Reportedly, in terms of pricing, Cloud PC will differ from offerings such as Windows Virtual Desktop. Specifically, organizations will be able to pay a flat rate for each user using the Cloud PC.

ZDNet also reports that Cloud PC is already undergoing closed testing with several partners.
