Microsoft has officially introduced the DirectSR API, which aims to simplify the integration of image scaling technologies into game development projects. This API serves as a unified solution for utilizing upscaling technologies from various vendors such as NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel, allowing developers to use one set of code for different technologies.
The DirectSR API will be available in preview versions of the Agility SDK and will be showcased at the upcoming Game Developers Conference (GDC).
This API enables multi-vendor SR through a common set of inputs and outputs, allowing a single code path to activate a variety of solutions including NVIDIA DLSS Super Resolution, AMD FidelityFX™ Super Resolution, and Intel XeSS. DirectSR will be available soon in the Agility SDK as a public preview, which will enable developers to test it out and provide feedback.
, says Microsoft. Interested developers can join the DirectX State of the Union at GDC.
Also, it is worth noting that Microsoft is also working on a new Automatic Super Resolution feature. Being a work-in-progress, it is hidden in recent Insider builds. The option is powered by AI, but there is no sign that it relies on the new API. Instead, it must be using existing image scaling technologies.
