LibreOffice 6.4 Now Includes QR Code Generator, App Improvements

The Document Foundation released a new version of the LibreOffice suite, bringing ready-to use packages for Linux, Windows, and macOS. One of the interesting changes in this release is the built-in QR code generator.LibreOffice needs no introduction. This open source office suite is the de-facto standard on Linux as well as a good alternative for Windows users who can do with basic editing without the complicated formatting and feature bloat of Microsoft Office. The price being free is yet another killer feature of LibreOffice.

Key changes of LibreOffice 6.4

  • A new unified hyperlink context menu that allows editing, opening, and removing a hyperlink in any document.
  • The Automatic Redaction tool allows you to add words and regular patterns that then are found in the document and marked for redaction.
  • A new search engine for the locally available help system based on xapian-omega.

  • Also, you can now attach comments to charts and images.
  • The side pane in writer now has table tools.

  • New shape overlap options.
  • Calc now allows exporting several sheets to one PDF file without pagination.
  • Plenty of other improvements made to Calc, and LibreOffice Online, including a new docker image for quick rollout of the Online version.

Besides the mentioned changes, LibreOffice 6.4 discontinues support for Java 6 and 7, and its VCL backend for GTK2. The app features better compatibility with DOC, DOCX, PPTX, and XLSX file formats, including performance improvements.
