KB5008295 is here to resolve all issues with apps in Windows 11

On November 4, 2021, Microsoft released a preview update for Windows Insiders to fix the broken Snipping Tool in Windows 11. We expected Microsoft to include the patch in the cumulative updates, due to release on November 9, 2021. That appeared not to be true. Microsoft decided not to wait, and now ships an out-of-band update to all Windows 11 users earlier.

If you use the latest operating system from Microsoft and the Snipping Tool app is hopelessly broken (as well as the Tips and Getting Started apps, touch keyboard, emoji panel, and others), KB5008295 is here to save your day. Microsoft published a notification about the patch on the Windows 11 Health Dashboard page.

According to Microsoft, all Windows 11 PCs connected to Windows Update and Windows Update for Business should install KB5008295 automatically. Alternatively, you can go to Windows Settings > Windows Update and click the Check for updates button. KB5008295 is also available for manual installation on the Microsoft Update Catalog via this link. You need to restart your system after applying the update.

KB5008295

Note that the build version will not change after installing KB5008295. You can check whether your system has successfully applied the patch in Windows Settings > Windows Update > Update history > Quality Updates.

Users started reporting issues with several stock Windows 11 apps on November 1, 2021. Microsoft quickly confirmed the bug and published a message with explanations, claiming an expired certificate was to blame. An optional update released on October 21, 2021, should have fixed the problem, but something went wrong, and Microsoft had to release an additional patch. Hopefully, this time, KB5008295 will get everything back to normal.
