Microsoft is rolling out updated versions of the Notepad and Paint apps to Windows 11 Insiders on the Dev and Canary channels. Notepad version 11.2512.10.0 adds support for strikethrough and nested lists in Markdown, along with a new welcome dialog. Paint version 11.2512.191.0 introduces the AI-powered Coloring book feature, which generates custom coloring pages from text prompts on Copilot+ PCs. It also includes a fill tolerance slider for the Paint Bucket tool.

Notepad (version 11.2512.10.0)
This update expands formatting support, including additional features for Markdown syntax. For example, Notepad now supports strikethrough and nested lists. The new options can be found in the formatting toolbar and accessed using keyboard shortcuts or by manually editing the Markdown syntax.
A new welcome dialog has also been added to inform users about the app's new and most useful features. This dialog provides a brief overview of Notepad's capabilities and serves as a useful starting point for both new and returning users. You can close it at any time and return to it later by clicking the megaphone icon in the upper-right corner of the toolbar.
Finally, streaming results for text AI features has been improved. Whether data is generated locally or in the cloud, results for the Write, Rewrite, and Summarize features will appear faster, without having to wait for a full response, allowing you to preview and interact with the result sooner. To use the Write, Rewrite, and Summarize features in Notepad, you must be signed in to your Microsoft account.
Paint (version 11.2512.191.0)
Coloring book is an AI-powered feature that lets you create unique coloring pages based on a text query. To try it out, open Paint and select "Coloring book" from the Copilot menu. When the sidebar opens, enter a description of the coloring page you'd like to create, such as "cute fluffy cat on a donut" or "house with garden and fence," and then click "Generate."
Paint will generate a set of unique coloring pages based on your request. Once the pages are created, you can click on any of them to add them to the canvas, copy them, or save them for later use.
Please note that the Coloring book feature is only available on Copilot+ PCs. You must be signed in to your Microsoft account to use it.
Fill tool
A fill tolerance slider has been added, giving you control over how accurately the Paint Bucket tool applies color.
To get started, select the Paint Bucket tool and use the slider on the left side of the canvas to adjust the tolerance settings to your desired level. Experiment with different tolerance settings to achieve clean fills or create creative effects.
