Windows 10 comes with a virtual desktops option, a new feature that was't available earlier to Windows users. It is called Task View, and it allows you to organize the running apps between virtual desktops. Each of the desktops has its own taskbar, own set of open windows, and reminds of how multi-monitor configurations work. This allows you to differentiate your tasks, and takes your productivity to the next level.

Virtual Desktops is a huge step forward for users. It adds the missing capability to Windows that was already available in Linux and Mac OS for years.

Starting with Windows 10 build 21337, you can now not only assign individual wallpapers to each of your virtual desktops, but also rearrange Virtual Desktops the way you like.

This post will show you how to reorder Virtual Desktops in the Task View in Windows 10. There are a few methods you can use.

Reorder Virtual Desktops in Windows 10

  1. Open the Task View (Win + Tab).
  2. To reorder virtual desktops, drag and drop a virtual desktop thumbnail to another place in the Task View list.
  3. Alternatively, right-click on a virtual desktop thumbnail, and select Move left or Move right from the context menu.Reorder Virtual Desktops In Windows 10
  4. Finally, you can use the following keyboard shortcuts: Alt + Shift + Left Arrow to move left, or Alt + Shift + Right Arrow to move right a virtual desktop in the Task View.

You are done.

Note: To try this feature, you obviously must have more than one virtual desktop. You might be interested in learning how to add a virtual desktop.

It's also worth mentioning that commands may appear disabled for the first and last virtual desktops in the Task View. For instance, the "Move left" entry appears disabled for the first (leftmost) desktop, and the "Move right" command is not available for the rightmost virtual desktop.

That's it.

  1. It is really helpful that you publish such instructions so fast after the features have hit the dev channel. However, I do think headlines should, in general, point out if the post is about a beta feature – not only in Windows articles, but for those about browsers as well. Most people do not use dev builds, hence may mistakenly believe the article is about an undiscovered feature they’d love to use – and we don’t know how it’s going to be in the release version.
