In Windows 8.1 Update 1, a useful change in addition to showing apps on the taskbar is the ability to pin them. Let us see all the ways in which you can pin Modern apps to the taskbar.
Windows 8.1 Update 1 allows you to pin modern apps in four ways.
Method 1: Pin a Modern Store app to the taskbar from the Start screen
If the Modern app's tile is already pinned to your Start screen, just right click the appropriate tile on the Start screen and choose the Pin to taskbar item. Thats's it, the application will be pinned to the taskbar.
Method 2: Pin a Modern Store app to the taskbar from the Apps View
While you are on the Start screen, press the small downwards pointing arrow at the bottom left corner of the Start screen or just press the Ctrl + Tab shortcut. This will switch the Start screen to the Apps view. By right clicking any app in the Apps View, you will be able to locate and pin the required app to the Taskbar:
Method 3: Pin a running Modern Store app from its taskbar jumplist
This is a way you should be familiar with. Right click any running app's icon on the taskbar, and you will get access to the Pin command. This of course is only possible if you have the setting to show Store apps on the taskbar turned on.
Method 4: Pin an app from search
