Here are some more details about HoloLens 3 and Microsoft+Samsung partnership

Business Insider has shared some new details about HoloLens 3 and Microsoft and Samsung partnership. The new post reveals the code name Calypso used for the device. Although Microsoft has denied this information, the new post claims that the device has been phased out in 2021. Employees who worked on the project were transferred to other teams or left Microsoft.

BI's sources at Microsoft claim that Calypso differed from its predecessor with a more durable design, increased battery life and the ability to use the headset outdoors. They name Microsoft's desire to use its resources for other projects as the reason for the cancellation of HoloLens 3. The main project is Samsung's AR headset, codenamed Bondi.

Business Insider reports that Microsoft is longer working on HoloLens 3 for both businesses and consumers. However, the firm continues to build a custom version of HoloLens for the US Army codenamed Atlas. But this device is not planned to appear on the consumer market.

The post also mentions Microsoft's future strategy for mixed reality. Microsoft is reportedly partnering with Samsung to create a multi-screen headset that will work with Samsung smartphones. This likely means that the headset will run Android and not Windows. The role of Windows in this project is unclean, as well as the role of Microsoft in the new partnership with Samsung.

Business Insider sources say Microsoft is considering a headset that would push the operating system and required data from the cloud directly to the device. However, this idea is at an early stage of development. So it may change significantly by the time of the public announcement. Also, Microsoft might cancel this project.
