Google has updated the stable channel of the Chrome browser with a new version. Chrome 95.0.4638.54 is notable for a variety of fixes. Feature-wise, it doesn't include the FTP support code any longer, so the flag doesn't work. There is also a side panel option, which is enabled by default for some.

What's new in Chrome 95

  • Side Panel. The side panel options extends the Reading List. It opens the latter in a sidebar on the right. It also lists bookmarks in there. Learn how to disable or enable the Side Panel in the following post.
  • Autofill. The browser will ask for a permission to save your entered address. Also, if the browser finds an address in a web form, it will display a prompt to save the address, edit it, update a previously saved address, or refuse to save.
  • FTP support. Google Chrome doesn't include the code for FTP protocol support. In Chrome 88, FTP support was disabled by default, but the flag was left to revert it.
  • Navigation. Chrome no longer supports URLs with host-terminated numeric hostnames that do not match IPv4 addresses. For example, URLs "http://127.1/", "http://foo.127.1/" and "http://127.0.0.0.1" will now be considered invalid.
  • Other. A variety of JavaScript and WebAssembly improvements.

This update includes 19 security fixes. Many of the fixed vulnerabilities were found with automated testing tools, such as AddressSanitizer, MemorySanitizer, Control Flow Integrity, LibFuzzer, and AFL. You can lean more about them on the Chrome Security Page.

  1. I wonder why exactly they made this change – have they said why? For security? https://192.168.1.1/ doesn’t work but https://192.168.1.1 works.
