Google Drive will stop working on Windows 8.1/8 in August 2023

Google's cloud storage client is terminating support of Windows 8.1 and its predecessor, Windows 8. The company encourages users to upgrade the operating system to a newer version.

Google Drive Drops Windows 8.1 Support

Google Drive is a free app that allows accessing the cloud files in a convenient way. It integrates into File Explorer, and syncs the changes back and forth.

It is very important to note that besides Windows 8.1/8, Google Drive also drops support for 32-bit Windows versions. So if you have Windows 10 32-bit installed, you are out of luck.

Google ended support for Google Chrome for Windows 7/8/8.1 in February. Microsoft ended of support for Windows 8.1 on January 10, 2023, so the OS no longer receives updates. Finally, most Microsoft's products, such as the Edge browser, Microsoft Store, and Microsoft 365 Apps no longer work in the legacy OS.
