In typical company's fashion, Google will drop support for its online cinema service, Google Play Movies & TV. The company has already transitioned iOS and Android users to the Google TV app, as well as removing the service from Roku set-top boxes and most smart TVs.
To help users access their purchased content after the abandonment of the brand, Google has provided instructions in a support document. Android TV device owners can find their content in the "Store" tab, starting from January 17, 2024.
Starting from the same date, cable box and Android TV set-top box users will be able to watch and rent movies through the YouTube app or a browser.
The Google Play Movies & TV app on Android TV already indicates the presence of a Store tab, according to reports.
Google introduced Google TV in 2020 as a replacement for the Google Play Movies & TV app in the mobile app sector. This decision resulted in the gradual phasing out of the Google Play Movies & TV branding across various platforms.
Support for Google Play Movies & TV on Android TV, as well as other platforms, will permanently cease on January 17 of the following year, as stated by the corporation.
