Thanks to the Game Mode feature, Windows 10 will be able to adjust its resource allocation logic (for CPU/Gfx etc.) to boost a game's performance when the user is playing it. According to Microsoft, this will work for both Win32 games and Windows Store games (Universal apps).

The announcement says the following:

"Our goal is to make Windows 10 the best Windows ever for gaming. With the Creators Update, we’re introducing a new feature called Game Mode. Windows Insiders will start seeing some of the visual elements for Game Mode this week, with the feature being fully operational in builds shortly thereafter. Our vision is for Game Mode to optimize your Windows 10 PC for increased performance in gaming. This is a big update for Windows; we’re looking forward to Insiders getting their hands on this new feature for further testing, and we’ll have much more to share on what it is and how it works soon, so stayed tuned."

The Game Mode is expected to be fully functional in upcoming builds of Windows 10 Creators Update.

However, in Windows 10 build 15007, there are some settings which are already available. A new Game Mode option has appeared in the Game DVR panel. See the following screenshot:Windows 10 Game Mode

Even when the option is enabled, it is not possible to check if it does anything useful. It does not work yet in Windows 10 build 15007.

More changes related to the Game mode are expected in upcoming builds of Windows 10 Creators Update. The final version of Windows 10 Creators Update is expected in April 2017.

  1. Does this feature increase performance just by upping the priority of the game or what does it do?
If that’s all what it does, than you can pretty much already do that yourself with tools like prio for example.
