Fluent Design 3D emoji now available in Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams has got new 3D Fluent Design emojis in preview. You may remember that Microsoft introduced these emojis in the middle of last year. The updated set includes 1800 emoticons.

The official announcement states the following.

Users will see a new take on most of the previous Teams emojis, along with some new picks! All skintone-enabled emojis will continue to have 6 skintone options.

These are the specific changes:

  • Emojis in chat and channels messaging will update to the new Fluent style, along with delightful animations for applicable emojis
  • Reactions in chat, channels, and live meeting reactions will update to the new Fluent style

New emoticons will appear in chats, channels, as reactions and in video conferences. Even more, some emoticons are animated. Here are some screenshots.

To give them a try, you need open settings in your Microsoft Teams app, and join the public beta. In a corporate environment, system administrators need to enable Microsoft Teams test features for their users. The updated emoticons are available in the Teams client apps across all supported platforms. Those include Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, Linux and the web version of the service.
