Firefox for Android will receive extension support, same its desktop version

Mozilla has announced that the Android version of Firefox will soon support an open extension ecosystem. The launch is scheduled for early September, with the complete deployment expected to be finished by the end of this year.

Firefox for Android extension support

Currently, there is a limited collection of extensions available in Firefox for Android. The company's developers have been focused on improving the user experience of the browser and have not prioritized extension support. However, Mozilla recognizes the potential of smartphones for creativity and the development of third-party functions. As a result, they have announced plans to introduce support for desktop extensions in Firefox for Android.

The mobile version of the browser will have access to the addons.mozilla.org (AMO) open extension platform. Mozilla is providing this announcement in advance to give developers time to optimize their Android projects.

Detailed optimization instructions will be published on the developer portal in the near future. Developers can test their ready-made extensions using Firefox Nightly for Android.
