Features removed in Windows 10 version 1803

Groove Music Pass - Groove's streaming service and music sales tracking via the Microsoft Store ended in 2017, and the Groove app has been updated to reflect this change. You can still use Groove Music to play songs on your PC or stored in OneDrive, but you’ll need to use a different service if you want to stream music.

People suggestions - The People app will no longer include unsaved contacts for non-Microsoft accounts. The user should manually save the contact details for people you send mail to or get mail from.

Control Panel Language settings - The user needs to use the Settings app to change his language settings.

HomeGroup - HomeGroup has been removed but not the ability to share printers, files, and folders.

Connect to suggested open hotspots - This option has now been removed from the Wi-Fi page in Settings. Tip: It is possible to connect to any hotspot from the taskbar or Network and Sharing center.

Conversations in the People app - This option now requires an online Office 365 mail account. It doesn't work offline anymore and doesn't support other email accounts.

XPS Viewer - The app is no longer installed by default if you install Windows 10 1803 from scratch (clean install). It is possible to install it manually using Settings - Apps - Apps and features.

Deprecated features

Software Restriction Policies in Group Policy - It is now recommended to use AppLocker or Windows Defender Application Control to control your apps.

Offline symbol packages - You cannot download an MSI package with symbols. The Microsoft Symbol Server is moving to be an Azure-based symbol store.

Windows Help Viewer (WinHlp32.exe) - All Windows help information is available online. The Windows Help Viewer is no longer supported in Windows 10.

Contacts feature and Windows Contacts API - The company is no longer developing the Contacts feature or the corresponding Windows Contacts API. Instead, you can use the People app in Windows 10 to maintain your contacts.

Phone Companion - Use the Phone page in the Settings app.

IPv4/6 Transition Technologies - 6to4 has been disabled by default since Windows 10, version 1607 (the Anniversary Update), ISATAP has been disabled by default since Windows 10, version 1703 (the Creators Update), and Direct Tunnels has always been disabled by default. Microsoft suggests you use native IPv6 support instead.

That's it. Source: Microsoft.

  1. I hope someone’ll make a third party homegroup tool for easy filesharing with various windows versions on the network.

  2. Update orchestrator scheduled tasks cannot be disabled anymore and triggers cannot be deleted also. This 1803 update is removing that slight upper hand users had to disable MS messing the system.

  3. I suspect there are other IPv4/6 Transition Technologies dropped in 1803, not just in the previous updates as MS implies in their statement. I had to disable IPv6 support on every client PC in my local network (my ISP doesn’t support it anyway) to get windows shares working again by name with UNC, this wasn’t necessary in 1709.

    1. Same thing.

Problem: older OS versions on the network (Windows 7, Vista), even a Windows 10 still on 1709 require ipv6. There must another ‘better’ way to enable network sharing than to disable the router’s ipv6. What if I change ISP and the new ISP already supports ipv6? I’d get an ipv6 ip address. Why not? Except for this. MS must fix ipv6. It’s a bug.

  4. Timeline doesn’t work for me. I did an in place upgrade with media creation tool: everything is enabled but it doesn’t log the history. Any clue?

  5. I installed the 1803 Creators Update today, and Winaero Tweaker 0.10.1’s “Customize This PC Folder” feature doesn’t seem to work anymore. It will let me add folders to This PC but if I go inside the folders a.) I cannot delete any items in the folders, b.) I can’t cut CTRL + X anything from inside the folders, and c.) I can’t open up subfolders inside the folders. I have tried restarting my computer several times. I have tried other things. But nothing I do seems to work.

  6. I found a workaround for my problem, although it isn’t a very good workaround. Before, I wanted to create a This PC folder for User > Videos and another one for User > Programs (PS – This was created by me and wasn’t a default folder like Videos was). But I had this problem that after the 1803 update, if I create This PC folders for these two locations, I could not edit or open any of the items inside of those folders. So I tried doing other things. I tried cutting the User > Videos and User > Programs and pasting on Desktop and then back again. That did not work. I then tried deleting User > Videos and then creating a new User > Videos and then adding a This PC folder for that location. That did not work. But if I create a completely new folder like User > Watching and then create a This PC folder for that User > Watching folder, it works. So for some reason I have to create completely new folders in my User folder and name them something else. I don’t like this because I want my original folders. So if you figure out how I can get the original folders, let me know. But I will use this workaround for now. Thank you.
