Enable colored title bars but keep taskbar black in Windows 10

Previously, we covered an interesting Registry tweak which allowed you to have colored title bars but keep a black taskbar and Start menu in Windows 10. With Windows 10 Anniversary Update, Microsoft added the appropriate option to the Settings app, so you can get such an appearance with just a few mouse clicks! Let's see how it can be done.

The option mentioned in this article is new to Windows 10 Anniversary Update. To get it working, you need to have Windows 10 build 14316 or above installed.

How to enable colored title bars but keep taskbar black in Windows 10

There is a new option in Settings under Personalization Colors. It allows you to enable colored title bars but keep taskbar black in Windows 10. Do the following.

  1. Open the Settings app.Windows 10 settings app
  2. Go to Personalization -> Colors.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to the option Show color on Start, taskbar, and Action Center. If you want to keep them black, don't enable this option or turn it off if it is enabled.
  4. Enable the option Show color on title bar. This option must be enabled.Windows 10 show color on title bar
  5. In Windows 10 Creators Update, the settings page looks a bit different. Scroll down to "More options" to the section Show accent color for the following surfaces.   1. We need the ability to have black title bars. The best way of doing it would be to have black title bars when dark mode is enabled and “show colour on title bars” is disabled. Currently title bars are white even in dark mode, which is simply ridiculous.

  2. How to enable fully black color for my taskbar. If i select black,it says that the color is not supported, but I see others having it,why is that a case?
