Despite Microsoft’s acquisition, Activision Blizzard will still release games for the PlayStation

Microsoft's Phil Spencer

Today, Microsoft announced its intention to acquire Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion. The deal is set to close somewhere between July 2022 and June 2023. Obviously, the acquisition will require approval from both the boards of directors of both companies and from regulatory authorities.

But does that mean all future Activision games will be Xbox exclusives? It doesn't look like that. Bloomberg managed to contact its own sources at Microsoft, who revealed that the Redmond firm will continue releasing Activision games for PlayStation consoles. However, some projects will still become Xbox exclusives.

Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft's gaming division, has made a similar statemet.  According to him, players who play Activision Blizzard games on the Sony platform will be able to do so in the future. Microsoft has no intention of poaching the player community away from this platform, and that policy remains unchanged.

Most likely, the new Activision Blizzard projects will be Xbox exclusives, while the old franchises will continue to be released on all platforms.
