Microsoft has released December cumulative updates for all supported operating systems. Traditionally, you won't get new features, but they include bug fixes and patched vulnerabilities. The packages are already available in Windows Update.
You will find advanced details about the includes changes in the updates on the official website. Here are the key changes.
Windows 11, KB5007215 (OS Build 22000.376)
This update contains miscellaneous security improvements to internal OS functionality. There are no known issues.
Additionally, the patch comes with quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Its version is 22000.345. Check out the patch page on the Windows Update History website.
Besides the Windows Update tool in Settings, you can manually download the update from the Microsoft Update Catalog website.
The following Windows 10 versions received the updates.
- May 2021 Update (21H1) — KB5008212 (OS Build 19043.1415).
- October 2020 Update (20H2) — KB5007186 (OS Build 19042.1415)
- May 2020 Update (2004) — KB5007186 (OS Build 19041.1415).
- November 2019 Update (1909) — KB5008206 (OS Build 18363.1977)
- October 2018 Update (1809) — KB5008218 (OS Build 17763.2366)
As for the change log, Microsoft has mentioned the same "miscellaneous security improvements to internal OS" for all the updates.
It is also worth mentioning that Windows 10, version 2004, today received its last cumulative update. The support time of this OS version is over. Until the next Patch Tuesday users are safe. However, consider upgrading to newer versions of Windows 10.
It's worth noting that this is a marketing change. Windows 10 version 20H2, 21H1, and 21H2 are built on the same codebase as the May 2020 Update (2004) and receive exactly the same cumulative updates. The only difference is that newer versions include a few minor new features that are disabled in 2004.
Windows 10, version 1903, and version 1909 share the underlying code base and have an identical set of system files. This is why they receive the same cumulative updates. The same is for Windows 10, version 2004, 20H2, and 21H1.
