Copilot Major Update: Mico Avatar, Group Chats, and Real Talk

Microsoft officially unveiled Mico, a new expressive avatar that appears during voice interactions with Copilot, among other features. The personality image appears as an abstract animated sphere that hovers on the screen, changing shape and color, and expressing emotions during conversation, making communication more natural.

Mico aims to remove the awkwardness many people feel when talking to a computer. This interface is optional - it can be disabled if it becomes distracting.

The name Mico is a reference to Microsoft Copilot. For longtime Windows and Office users, Microsoft has a surprise: If you tap Mico's avatar repeatedly, it will transform into the legendary assistant Clippy.

Group chats

Microsoft has also expanded Copilot's collaboration capabilities. A new group chat mode has been added, allowing up to 32 people to simultaneously communicate in a single Copilot conversation. To invite participants, simply send them a generated link.

You can invite friends, classmates, or teammates, and Copilot will keep everyone working smoothly by summarizing discussions, suggesting solutions, counting votes, and assigning tasks.

Real Talk

Another new feature is "Real Talk." Copilot will now be able to challenge and contradict user assumptions. Microsoft claims this makes Copilot the first AI assistant on the market capable of this behavior.

The goal of this feature is to ensure accurate responses, especially when discussing sensitive or personal topics. This is expected to prevent situations where the AI tries to follow the user's lead.

Copilot Health

Finally, the company introduced the Copilot Health feature, which allows the AI assistant to use trusted medical resources, such as Harvard Health, when generating answers. Copilot will also help find suitable doctors for consultations.

These features are part of Fall Copilot update. You will find more details on them in the official blog.
