CLSID (GUID) shell location list in Windows 10

There are lots of shell locations in Windows 10, that you can access via shell:::{GUID} commands from the "Run" dialog. They are also known as "Shell Folders". With each version of Windows, many new shell locations are added. Here is the list of CLSID (GUID) shell locations available in Windows 10 Anniversary Update.

What are Shell Folders

Shell folders are ActiveX objects that implement a special virtual folder or a virtual applet. In some cases, they provide access to physical folders on your hard drive or even to special OS functionality like "Minimize all Windows" or the Alt+Tab switcher.

What you can do with Shell Folders

You can use them in various scenarios, but in the general case you can use them to create a shortcut to a specific Control Panel applet or a Windows feature. For example, the following command will open the "Network Connections" folder:

shell:::{7007ACC7-3202-11D1-AAD2-00805FC1270E}

windows-10-network-locations-folder

Note: Press Win+R keys on your keyboard, copy the command above and paste it in the "Run" dialog.

run-clsidThe following command will open Control panel always in "Category" view:

shell:::{26EE0668-A00A-44D7-9371-BEB064C98683}

And the following command will open Control Panel in icon-view, either small or large, that was set by the user the last time he opened it.

shell:::{5399E694-6CE5-4D6C-8FCE-1D8870FDCBA0}

There are lots of interesting things there. You may already know the famous so called God Mode/All Tasks shell location.

Tip: You can use Winaero Tweaker to create a shortcut for any shell folder in Windows 10. It comes with the following option.

You can use them to create shortcuts to access your favorite Windows features directly. Also, you can create a new folder and name it "<Anything>.{GUID}" to access the shell location directly from there instead of creating a shortcut.

You need to use Explorer.exe shell:::{GUID} as the shortcut target to create a shortcut to a specific shell location. Alternatively, you can use the following syntax:

explorer /e,::{CLSID}

In the following example, I will create a shortcut to the Show Desktop  command.show-desktop-command

See the following article: Add the Show Desktop button next to Start in Windows 10

That's it.

  1. This is the only I need:
    Connect To shell:::{38A98528-6CBF-4CA9-8DC0-B1E1D10F7B1B}
    And it don’t work!

    Anyone an idea??

  2. I want to pin the Display Settings, so I created a shortcut with this as the target: “C:\Windows\explorer.exe shell:::{C555438B-3C23-4769-A71F-B6D3D9B6053A}” (I just put in “explorer.exe” and Windows added the path).

    When I try to run it, I get an error: This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program…

    I don’t understand why it’s not working. Any help would be very appreciated!

    Jim

  3. C:\Windows\explorer.exe shell:::{2559a1f7-21d7-11d4-bdaf-00c04f60b9f0} does not bring up “set program access and computer defaults” on windows 10 1803.

    I hate windows 10!

  4. Without WinAeroTweaker I would not dream of using Win10. I don’t know if I must thank you ;-)
    There is something I have not found, not even in your extensive documentation : I hate the fact that Disks and folders are duplicated with different roots in the navigation pane (Quick Access, Libraries,. My User Profile, My PC, removable drives, Network and others.) Win Aero Tweaker helped me a lot towards an more ergonomic experience.
    I did not succeed in creating shortcuts for my Profile, Documents and Downloads that will open from “This PC C:\Users\Username” in the navigation pane, instead they open as a “root” folder in the navigation pane with no link to the disk. (I know that Linux has been contaminated as well with the “Places” view in the navigation pane, but at least one can switch to the tree view there.)

  5. Sound – Speaker Properties
    I ‘m trying to make a “Speaker Properties…” shortcut.
    This can be natural opened by -> R.Click Taskbar volume icon -> Sounds -> “Speakers” (default sound device) -> Speaker Properties -> (for example) “Tone” tab (settings here may differ depends sound card, but this can set, for example, bass-treble balance etc.)
    As you see there are too many clicks to get this options and this is the reason I trying to make shortcut for this.

    I opened (classic) Windows Task Manager and checked the process for that. Some info about:
    Image name: rundll32.exe
    Command Line: “C:\Windows\system32\rundll32.exe” shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL mmsys.cpl,,sounds
    Description: Windows host process (Rundll32)

    Is there anyone that Can help me please?
